Piccolo is just one of 16 schools that Chicago Public Schools wants to “turnaround” by handing management of Piccolo over to the private non-profit Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL), as well as replace many members of the school’s current staff.
“We are at are breaking point, give us the resources for our school, give us the money, we dont need AUSL up in here. We’re doing our own turn around,” said one protester taking part in the action at Piccolo.
Both police and the school security at Piccolo has denied Occupy Chicago’s attempts to deliver food and resources inside. The occupiers have pledged to continue their sit-in until they are given a meeting with Mayor Rahm emanuel.
